The Installations

The Spinner series have been conceived as virtual sculptures. This work is on the bleeding edge but uses technology that will become ubiquitous in time. The viewer is instructed to scan the QR code with their iPhone camera in order to display a web link. Tapping on that link downloads the augmented reality (AR) sculpture. Once it’s loaded the viewer can place, scale and rotate the sculpture using the usual IOS pinch and zoom 2 finger gestures. The AR sculptures are organic, seed like forms that the viewer can move around in real time within the allotment environment.

The Evolution series are installations of carefully arranged objects reminiscent of museum collections. They resemble organic fossilised forms or dried seeds that seem to evolve in shape and size. The viewer may find some echoes of these shapes in the allotments – a dead flower head, a twisted piece of string, the husk of a fruit. Another source of inspiration for this work for the artist is the joy of ‘mud larking’ – finding discarded objects in the river mud or low tide.

Artists bio

I'm a multi-disciplinary artist producing work as prints, sketches, small sculptures and maquettes.

I've had a long career working as a professional artist specialising in public artworks and interior design projects for new build construction schemes. Many of these artworks and projects have been fabricated in metals but I've also used light, acrylic, clay, glass resin and digital print. This interest in materials and process stems from my earlier art college training as a sculptor.

I’ve always had an abiding interest in convergent technologies, and I use digital and analogue processes throughout my work as both a designer and artist.

Although my range of interests is wide ranging I'm currently especially interested in concepts around House, Field and Flow and the combination of different, often found, materials.
